No Sexual Assault, No Acid: Aligarh SSP Sets Facts Straight In Aligarh Minor’s Murder
In a separate comment, the DG police said that they have invoked POCSO and will investigate charges of sexual assault.
On June 2, the mutilated corpse of a three-year-old girl was found in a garbage dump in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh. Two persons, Zahid and Aslam, have been arrested in connection with the crime. The girl had been missing since May 31.
Senior Superintendent of Police Akash Kulhari said the girl went missing from the Tappal township on May 31. The police have said that the brutal killing was a fallout of a financial dispute between the victim’s father and Zahid.
Kulhari noted that given the gravity of the crime, proceedings have begun to charge the duo under the stringent National Security Act. He said a process has also started to follow this case through a fast track court.
Social media, however, since the news of the murder, has been chockful of misinformation and lies. Many on Twitter had suggested she was raped before she was murdered. It has also been claimed that the victim’s arm was amputated, her eyes were gouged out, and acid was poured on her body.
However, all of this was misinformation. “Post-mortem examination has not found any sign of sexual assault. The report confirmed death due to strangulation,” Kulhari told PTI.
Further, this was clarified by the Aligarh police via a tweet, in response to a social media user who claimed that the victim had been raped. Per the tweet, the victim was strangulated over a financial dispute. In an attempt to quash rumours once and for all, the Aligarh police shred a video of Kulhari issuing clarifications.

Speaking to Alt News, Kulhari also said, “The post-mortem report mentions death by strangulation as the cause. The claims circulating on social media that the victim’s eyes were gouged out and her arm amputated are also false. Also, the claim that acid was poured on her body, is untrue. No such thing has occurred. The post-mortem report has been shared with the family of the victim.”
The victim’s father has demanded that other family members of the accused be arrested as the crime could not have been carried out without their knowledge. He threatened that he would start a fast unto death from tomorrow if no further arrests were made.
Security measures at Tappal township, 50 kilometres from the district headquarters, have been tightened as a precautionary step after tension mounted there on Wednesday.
Update: As per a report in ANI Uttar Pradesh, Anand Kumar, the director general of police for Law and Order, said that a special investigation team (SIT) had been formed under the Superintendent of Police for rural areas (SPRA).
