Antigua Says Modi In No Hurry To Bring Back Mehul Bhai
Browne told Network18 that neither the CBI nor the ED has written to his government seeking information on Choksi’s whereabouts.
In an interview to Mumbai Mirror, Antigua and Barbuda Foreign Minister E P Chet Greene said that the Modi government has not made any request to bring back fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi, who was considered close to the prime minister. The same views were shared by Prime Minister Gaston Browne too.
Referring to Choksi, Greene said, “Do not want scoundrels lurking on our soil.”
The foreign minister underlined that he will not allow anyone to abuse the country’s Citizenship for Investment Programme. He added that the Antigua government is prepared to sit with India and discuss the issue.
Reports suggest that Choksi is in Antigua as he has acquired the citizenship of the Caribbean country. Moreover, Antigua Prime Minister Browne told Network18 that neither the CBI nor the ED has written to his government seeking information on Choksi’s whereabouts.
If the Modi government wants to deport him, why didn’t they take up the issue with Antigua yet? Your guess is as good as ours.
