Attacking The Poor, Not Poverty: Houses of Poor People Destroyed, Trash Hidden Before Modi’s Agra Rally
Join PM Modi's rally or hide yourselves: Administration's diktat to slum dwellers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi may talk about helping the poor and a “Swachh Bharat”, but right before his rallies, slums are razed, poor people are rendered homeless and attempts are made to “hide” trash.
Before Prime Minister Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached Agra for a rally on Wednesday, some slums were razed and others were covered. The administration also ordered the dwellers to either join the rally or hide.
According to Amar Ujala, a day before the rally, the administration removed slums near Kothi Meena Bazaar in Agra. This was executed under the joint supervision of both the police and the municipal corporation. Not just that, the administration also “covered” the slums that were located at a distance from the ground where the rally was held.
Expressing their pain, the victims said that the administration did not even give them time to evacuate their huts. They added that if they were told beforehand, they would have removed their belongings.
