Bangalore: Five Medical College Students Arrested For Ragging A Dalit Junior

The accused students came to the victim’s hostel room and started abusing him. One of the accused even slapped him.

Five senior students from a medical college in Rajaji Nagar, Bangalore, have been accused of ragging a Dalit student. Upon receiving a complaint, the local police arrested the five students.

According to a report in Live Hindustan, the victim alleged that on December 24 night, the five accused — all final year students — came to his hostel room and started abusing him. One of the accused even slapped him. After this, the accused students dragged the victim out and kept harassing him till late at night.

According to the police, all the accused students are from North India and were under the influence of alcohol when they harassed their junior. The police have registered a case against the accused students under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Karnataka Education Act, 1983. Under the Karnataka Education Act, the accused can be jailed for a year, if found guilty.
