“We found that there had been a policy to squeeze agriculture in favour of other favoured groups… like corporates…we were demanding that please stop that,” Mann said.
He spoke about the Essential Commodities Act, which he refers to as detrimental for farmers. He added that for the first time since India’s independence, the Congress has promised to repeal the act.
“There seems to be a policy shift in the Congress manifesto…On the other hand, the BJP has shown a complete non-serious approach towards the farmers, as they did during the last five years,” Mann said, reported PNS.
“We have always been saying that there has to be ‘karz mukti’ (debt-free)… instead of ‘karz maafi’ (debt waiver),” which, according to the former MP, reflected in the Congress’ manifesto.
He also said that the demand of a separate farmers’ budget is also outlined in the manifesto.
“We oppose these (BJP) communal tensions creators, this is harmful for the country…hence we have decided to support the Congress all over to get (a) Congress government and defeat BJP government,” Mann said.
