‘Our Children Are Dying, Kill Us As Well’: Grieving Parents Lash Out At Health Minister Harsh Vardhan Over Encephalitis Crisis
The child death toll of suspected Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) rose to 100 in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.
“Our children are dying, kill us as well,” shouted inconsolable parents at Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan in Muzaffarpur in Bihar.
A video shared by Gaon Connection showed the Union Minister walking by with other officials as a man in the crowd began shouting expletives and ultimately begging the Bharatiya Janata Party minister to kill him. The crowd, the shouts, the impromptu demonstration were all a result of the massive outbreak of encephalitis in Bihar.

This incident took place when the Union minister visited the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital in Muzaffarpur on Sunday. According to a Times of India report, sources said that in the span of Harsh Vardhan’s visit — four hours — three children admitted there lost their lives.
As per a report in the Indian Express, the death toll for Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) rose to 100 in Bihar on Monday. As per reports, in the past 24 hours, more than twenty children have succumbed to the disease. Muzaffarpur civil surgeon SP Singh said while 76 children had died at the SKMCH, 17 deaths had been recorded at the Kejriwal Matrisadan since January this year. Currently, 115 patients were being treated at the two hospitals.
An official release from the Chief Minister’s office said Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the children’s death in the state and has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs four lakh for each of the children killed in the outbreak.
