Not Shocking: BJP’s Claims About Its Membership Numbers Also A Jumla
Sometimes it's 8 crore members, other times it's 14 crore. Potato potaato.
Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah’s speeches during the party’s national executive meeting have cast doubts on the actual membership figures of the party.
During his speech on September 8, Shah said that the party had 8 crore members. On the next day, he said that BJP had 9 crore members. Both figures contradict the claims made by party leaders earlier, reported The Print.
In 2015, the party had declared that with 8.8 crore members, it had become largest political party in the world, leaving behind the communist party of China.
Earlier in September, Vijaya Rahatkar, president of BJP Mahila Morcha, had said that the party had 12 crore members, out of which, 3 crore were women.
In April, BJP’s Ali Mohammad Mir had quoted an even higher figure. He claimed that the BJP had become the largest party in the world, with 14 crore members.
Clearly, the ruling party does not seem to be aware of one of the most basic facts about the organisation.
