As BJP is Ranked The Biggest Brand Advertiser, Twitter Wonders Where The Money is Coming From

Important issues like Rafale Scam and Judge Loya’s murder have received very little coverage on mainstream news channels.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was the biggest brand advertiser on television for the week ended on November 16, as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India.

The BJP had around 22,099 insertions on TV in the one-week time, from November 10 to November 16. This is nearly twice as much as Netflix’s insertions—12,951—which is the second-placed brand in the list. The Congress party did not feature among the top-10 brands in the list.

Ashish Bhasin, South Asia Dentsu Aegis Network’s (DAN) chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said, “The election season has just begun. The real jump will come around general elections. During state election time, there are localised campaigns.”

Twitter, meanwhile, questioned how the party was able to spend so much money. Some lamented India’s economic woes that seem to have no effect on the party’s prospects while others suggested a link between bank frauds, Rafale scam and the party’s income.

Journalist Swati Chaturvedi tweeted, “Amit Shah & Bjp India’s richest advertisers are you still wondering about the #RafaleScam”

One user questioned if BJP’s advertisement spending was the reason behind mainstream news channels not giving coverage to issues like EVM tampering, Judge Loya’s murder, BJP Union Minister being accused of bribery and Rafale scam.
