PM Modi Doesn’t Seem To Care About The Northeast: BJP ST Morcha Nat Secy Hayithung Bill Lotha Quits Party
Minorities, scheduled tribes, Dalits and backward caste leaders have extremely little or no voice in decision making in BJP, he said.
In a major blow for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), its ST Morcha National Secretary Hayithung Bill Lotha has reportedly resigned from the party as a mark of protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 on Wednesday, February 13.
As per a Northeast Now report, Lotha criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ”Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not seem to care for Northeast inflicting great torture in pain on the indigenous people of Assam and North Eastern states threatening the very existence identity language culture and heritage,” he said in a press release.
Lotha further pointed out that the opinions of minorities and backward caste leaders are not respected in the saffron party under the current leadership. He said that he was “finding it difficult to understand the current functioning of BJP and the governance provided by Narendra Modi.” “I can no more say that I have the same emotional and sentimental attachment to the party,” he reportedly said.
“The minorities, scheduled tribes, Dalits and backward caste leaders have extremely little or no voice in decision making and party strategies/policy planning,” Lotha added, reported Northeast Now.
The former BJP leader also praised the protesting students’ unions and social organisations in the Northeast for “vigorously protesting for the future and betterment of our any indigenous people”.
