DMK Slams Modi Govt For Opening Up Of Senior Level Bureaucratic Posts

The Congress and CPI(M) had already slammed the move.

Chennai, Jun 11

DMK today criticised the Centre’s move to open up senior-level bureaucratic posts in various departments to people, even from the private sector, alleging it was an attempt at employing members of Sangh outfits in the government to “formulate Hindutva policies.”

“The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi), who had been working so far on the basis of Sangh Parivar’s ideas, has made such a move now to directly employ them in the government and formulate policies based on Hindutva,” DMK Working President M K Stalin said in a statement.

Such appointments were “anti-constitutional” as they didn’t meet the norms on appointments to be done to government departments as per the Mandal Commission recommendations, he said.

Stalin, Leader of the opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, said the move would also “belittle” the talent of existing government officials and IAS officers.

He alleged that already 27 per cent OBC reservation was not being followed in the recruitment process and feared the new move would deprive those of socially backward classes the opportunity to make it to big decision-making roles.

Condemning the move, he urged the Union government to immediately withdraw it and urged Chief Ministers of non-BJP ruled states to speak in one voice against it.

The government’s move to open up senior-level bureaucratic posts in several departments to people, even from the private sector has already kicked up a row, with political parties alleging it was aimed at getting persons associated with the BJP into administrative ranks.

According to advertisements published in leading newspapers, the government is looking for 10 “outstanding individuals”, even from the private sector, with expertise in the areas of revenue, financial services, economic affairs, agriculture, cooperation and farmers’ welfare, road transport and highway, shipping, environment, forests and climate change, new and renewable energy, civil aviation and commerce.

The Congress and CPI(M) had already slammed the move.
