Farmers’ Protest: Implement Swaminathan Commission Report, Otherwise Farmers Will Show Their Might In 2019 Polls, Arvind Kejriwal To Modi Govt

He also said that the Fasal Bima Yojana was the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Loot Farmers Yojana.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over farmers’ issues and alleged that he had “stabbed them in their back” by not fulfilling the promises made to them, on Friday, November 20.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief joined several leaders from the opposition parties at Jantar Mantar where thousands of farmers from across the country have gathered to press for their demands, including debt relief and remunerative prices for their produce.

In his address at the venue, Kejriwal underlined that the Centre had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying it would not implement the M S Swaminathan Commission report.

“The government had also made many promises to farmers during the last elections (2014), but it has not fulfilled those promises. And, by not implementing the Swaminathan Commission report, Modi ji has stabbed the farmers in their back,” he alleged.

The AAP leader said the Union government should implement the report in five months, otherwise, the farmers will show their might in the 2019 elections.

“The affidavit filed in the court should be withdrawn and the report should be implemented, otherwise, farmers would wreak havoc in 2019 elections,” he added.

Kejriwal also spoke about the Fasal Bima Yojana, under which private insurance companies have been entrusted with providing crop insurance. Kejriwal called the Yojana a “fraud” and said, “The Fasal Bima Yojana is a fraud. The insurance companies loot the farmers. (By) thousands of crores. Stop the Bima Yojana. It’s the BJP’s loot farmers yojana.” Kejriwal, then, added that the scheme needed to be stopped with farmers receiving refunds. He also said that a compensation scheme also needed to be instituted.

Finally, much as he had begun it, Kejriwal concluded his speech by taking a stab at Modi. He said, “I request Modi ji. As much as you worry about Ambani Adani, worry 10% of that for farmers. Otherwise, go ask votes from Ambani Adani only.”
