Farmers Say Modi Sarkar Is Fooling Them, There Is No Ache Din, Only Bure Din
The Rs 7,000-crore package approved for farmers will not benefit them, they claim.
The Rs 8,500-crore package approved by the Union Cabinet to clear dues of sugarcane farmers is actually going to be paid to the sugar mills directly.
“We won’t get anything from the Rs 8,500-crore package. Modi Sarkar had also promised to give Rs 15 lakh to each person (after demonetisation). But that didn’t happen,” a farmer told GoNews.
“He had promised ‘acche din’ and now there is only ‘bure din’. Farmers are committing suicide because of this,” he added.
The farmers have pending dues worth Rs 22,000 crore with sugar mills. But this due is pending because sugar mills buy the harvest from farmers, but the payments are not done in time, GoNews reported.
The farmers have been expressing their anger against the non-payment of dues. This was also reflected in the recent Uttar Pradesh by-polls, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost two of its major seats.
According to the information available on the PIB website, the sugar mills are going to be paid Rs 7,000 crore dues as opposed to what the Centre had claimed at the press conference.
The PIB website also mentions that the prices of sugar have gone down because of the rising demand. Hence, the sugar mills are undergoing a financial crisis. The government, in order to make 30 lakh metric tonnes of buffer stock, has kept Rs 1,175 crore separately, the website adds.
The government will pay the sugar mills for new incineration boilers and new distilleries. For this, they will be given Rs 4,440 crore from this package. Also, the government has announced that MSP for sugar will now be Rs 29 per kg. But, the farmers don’t see any of the above as a solution to their problems.
