600 People Including Cops, Teachers & Students Attend DEF Workshop On ‘Fighting Fake News’
The main aim of the workshops is to help people differentiate between fact, opinion and fake news.
Earlier this month, the Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), in collaboration with WhatsApp, organised workshops to create awareness in ‘Fighting Fake News’ in Balaghat and Seoni districts of Madhya Pradesh.
The main aim of the workshops was to help people differentiate between fact, opinion and fake; understanding the “other” perspective; learning techniques to verify information; and leveraging WhatsApp’s features for restricting unwanted communication.
Over 100 members of the Madhya Pradesh police force took part in the workshop held in Balaghat. Whereas, around 500 students and teachers were involved at the second workshop organised at Sardar Patel University, Balaghat.
DEF held workshops in Seoni at Government PG College which saw the attendance of over 40 police officers and 170 students respectively.
In the light of upcoming Lok Sabha elections, DEF will hold training sessions in 20 districts for community leaders in 10 states across the country where worrisome cases of violence have been reported, as well as in states where assembly elections are scheduled for the end of this year.
