Assam: 80-year-old Dies In Goalpara Detention Camp; Reason for Death Not Specified
Shashi Sarkar, a resident of Chirang district, had been in the camp for the past year-and-a-half.
Last Week, an 85-year-old man, Shashi Sarkar, reportedly died in a detention camp in Goalpara, Assam.
Local Daily Dainik Jugasankha reported that Sarkar, a resident of Chirang district, had been in the camp for the past year-and-a-half. A few days before his death, Sarkar was taken to Goalpara Civil Hospital as he was unwell. Later, his condition deteriorated due to which he was shifted to Guwahati Medical College.
On December 7, Sarkar’s family members were reportedly informed of his condition. They had gone to Guwahati to meet him the next day. However, they could not find him at the hospital and the detention camp authorities told them that he had passed away. The reasons for his death was not specified, the report added.
