Gurgaon: Police File Attempt to Murder Case Against Muslim Family Member Beaten by Mob on Holi
“It has become a trend on the part of the state machinery to file cases against families who were victimised,” Dilshad, against whom the case has been booked, said.
After a Muslim family from Gurgaon was attacked by a mob on Holi (March 21), police have reportedly booked a case against one of the victims.
Asad Ashraf writing for The Citizen reported that police have booked a case against Dilshad, who was injured along with his other family members.
Speaking to The Citizen, Dilshad said, “I fail to understand what kind of system this is. The entire world has seen in a video that we were roughed up, my hands were broken. Members of my family are still languishing in the hospital and now the police have filed a case against us. This is bizarre injustice.”
He added, “It has become a trend on the part of the state machinery to file cases against families who were victimised so they give up on their determination to get justice. This happened in Afrazul’s case, Pehlu Khan’s case, and now we are in the same league.”
Another family member, on the condition of anonymity, told The Citizen, “We have been living for more than a decade here, we spent so much money constructing this house, we have a successful furniture business in Badhshapur. But what happened on the day of Holi has shaken our faith apart.”
Confirming that a case has been registered against a family member, South Gurugram’s District Commissioner of Police Himanshu Garg told The Citizen, “Rajesh, the main accused alleged that he was beaten by the family using a bat. A medical examination confirmed that he was injured. Hence, we registered a complaint under IPC 307.”
Twenty to 25 men allegedly attacked a Muslim family and their guests with swords, spears, sticks at Dhamaspur village in Gurgaon around 5 pm on Holi. The men barged into the family’s home, vandalised their house and fled with valuables. The family was planning to put their Dhamaspur house on sale and move back to Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh. Now they are entangled in fresh trouble.
