Haryana: Farmer Gets SMS About PM-KISAN Money Deposited in His Accounts But No Money Actually Received

The aggrieved farmer is now stuck in a bureaucratic maze trying to figure out why he has not received the money.

Even after completing all formalities, many farmers are yet to receive money under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. In Haryana, farmers have reportedly received  text messages on their mobile phones that the money has been deposited but the same is not reflected in their bank accounts.

The Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had announced the PM-KISAN scheme in the interim budget. Under the scheme, Rs. 6,000 is to be deposited in the bank accounts of small and marginal farmers in three instalments.

However, since the model code of conduct was to come into effect upon the announcement of the general election, the government had directed that the first instalment of Rs 2,000 should be deposited in the farmers’ accounts before the poll code comes into force.

Dainik Savera reported that a Khanpur-based farmer, Surajkamal, received a text message on February 24 that under the said scheme, ‘in order to provide you financial assistance, Rs. 2,000 has been deposited into your account.’

After receiving the message, Dharamvir reportedly went to a branch of Punjab National Bank and found that no money had actually been deposited. On explaining the issue to the bank manager, he was reportedly redirected to the agriculture department.

The report adds that since then, Dharamvir has been running pillar to post to figure out the matter. However neither is any government official able tell him why the money was withheld nor are they ready to investigate the matter.

On Monday, Dharamvir’s wife reportedly met Gohana Congress MLA Jagbir Singh Malik who said that the BJP, keeping elections in mind, has played a cruel joke on farmers, hence the people will teach the government a lesson in the upcoming elections.

Per the report, when the SDEO of agriculture department Rajendra Mohra was told about the issue, he said that no farmer has approached him about the problem. If Dharamvir approaches him then he will investigate the matter.
