Haryana Police Lathicharges Students Protesting Death Of Fellow Student
Students of ITI Karnal were protesting after a 20-year-old student was run over while trying to catch a bus.
Students protesting at the Industrial Training Institute in Karnal, Haryana against the death of a fellow student were reportedly lathicharged by the Haryana police on Friday. The police also used tear gas shells at the crowd.
According to a Navbharat Times report, on Thursday, a 20-yer-old student was crushed by a bus as he was trying to get on. He immediately lost his life after the incident. Following this, the students at the institute came out in protest of the accident, which they say was caused because of the negligence of the driver. The students argue that bus drivers in the state do not halt at fixed bus-stops, because of which students are forced to run after the bus to catch it.
The protesters have also claimed in this case, the deceased student first rammed against the bus, even after which the driver did not stop the bus immediately. Due to this, the student fell and got crushed under the bus tyre. The protesting students reportedly damaged a bus and stalled traffic on the national highway after the accident.
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala condemned the police action on the students.
