Haryana: Angry Farmers Protest In Rohtak After Not Being Able To Sell Mustard

Farmers warned that if the procurement of mustard would not start as soon as possible, they would be forced to demonstrate again.

Farmers protested fiercely in Rohtak on Friday, May 10, against the Manohar Lal Khatter-led Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana. The farmers have not been able to sell their produce — mustard.

According to a report of Dainik Jagran, farmers came to sell their produce in the market, but government agencies refused to facilitate procurement for mustard. Per the daily, farmers said that the chief minister had assured the mustard farmers during a rally on May 6 that mustard would be procured in the mandi. Those promises have not been realised yet. A large number of tractors, loaded with mustard, were not allowed to enter the market.

Angry farmers blocked the Rohtak-Bhiwani road. The police reached the spot and tried to placate the agitated farmers.

As per a report in the Tribune, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar had said, “May 10 has been fixed as an open day for the procurement of mustard in the grain markets across the state. Hence, farmers can bring their produce for sale to the grain markets on May 10. The decision aims at procuring every seed of mustard to help farmers.”

Farmers warned that if the procurement of mustard would not start as soon as possible, they would be forced to demonstrate again.
