Haryana: Violent Mob Vandalised Muslim Man’s House on suspicion of “cow slaughter”. Muslim Man Arrested, While Those Who Created Ruckus Are Free.
The man whose house was vandalised has been arrested by the police.
A mob armed with lathis attacked and vandalised the house of a Muslim man named Yamin Khokhar in Titoli Village in Rohtak on Wednesday, reported Hindustan Times. The mob also vandalised the namaz ghar in the village.
According the reports, a calf had hit Yamin’s niece, after which he hit it with a lathi to shoo it away. “The calf walked a few steps and died on the corner of the road. But some anti-social elements spread the rumour that Muslims killed it for Bakrid. Yamin and his family fled the village apprehending trouble,” Naseerudin, Yamin’s neighbour, told HT.
When the violent mob charged at Yamin’s house, many Muslim families in the neighbourhood fled out of fear, while others hide inside their houses.
But, like most cases related to mob violence, the police have arrested the victim, while no action has been taken against the violent mob which vandalised Yamin’s house. The police said that they had to arrest Yamin to pacify the angry villagers.
Yamin and his two brothers were arrested under the police under the Cow Slaughter Act, on the basis of the complaint lodged by the Sarpanch of the village.
Yamin explained his innocence and his ordeal in a Facebook post before he was arrested, “Please try to understand. It happened by mistake. Muslims can also be vegetarian. Neither I nor my neighbours have ever slaughtered a cow. We drink cow’s milk.”
