I am confident Rahul Gandhi as PM will be accepted wholeheartedly by all Opposition leaders: DMK chief MK Stalin
The DMK leader hit back at PM Modi for describing its alliance with the Congress as 'opportunistic'.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin on Monday asserted that all the Opposition leaders will “wholeheartedly accept” Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate soon.
Stalin said that he had only expressed DMK’s “feeling” to see Rahul Gandhi as the prime minister. “None has opposed this feeling. Only, there are opinions that this could have waited and the announcement made after some time,” he said.
“I am confident that soon those who are making such remarks will also wholeheartedly accept this and support the idea,” Stalin added.
Stalin had earlier made a “Rahul for PM” pitch at a DMK organised public rally. Reacting to his remark, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said the topic could be discussed only after the 2019 Lok Sabha election and once the Opposition alliance emerged winners.
The DMK also hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for describing its alliance with the Congress as “opportunistic” and asked if the BJP’s reported attempts to join hands with its rival All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) was indeed ideology based.
Responding to Modi’s criticism of the DMK-Congress tie-up as “opportunistic,” Stalin said, “There are reports that PM Modi is trying to strike an alliance with the AIADMK. Is it an alliance of ideology or loot is my question,” Stalin, also Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, told reporters.
