Imran Khan’s Party Uses Yeddyurappa’s Remark To Embarrass India
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Party cited his remark to argue that that soldier's captivity and the danger to lives of so many people was equal to 22 seats for the BJP.

New Delhi: In a major embarrassment for India, the ruling party in Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) on Thursday, February 28 cited Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader BS Yeddyurappa’s claim, about Balakot air-strike helping BJP win 22 seats, to argue that the escalated tension between India and Pakistan had a political agenda behind it.
“Air Force excursions, war mongering, soldiers in captivity and the lives of so many people in danger all equate to 22 seats in the eyes of representatives on India’s ruling party. Is war an election option? #SayNoToWar,” tweeted the PTI official handle.

It added, “Took two days to reveal the political game behind sending two nuclear armed nations into an escalated tension situation. It’s about 22 seats. In this day and age, no agendas remain hidden. Take note India and #SayNoToWar #LetBetterSensePrevail“

Taking note of journalist Barkha Dutt’s criticism of Yeddyurappa for his remarks, PTI quote-tweeted her saying that she was manipulated into believing war was a solution. “We hope you understand that you were manipulated into war mongering. #LetBetterSensePrevail; isolate the ppl who r desperate to win an election. War is in no nation’s interest,& its soldiers & civilians who are the collateral damage. Don’t let one man use it for political mileage.”

Criticising PTI for ‘intervening in India’s domestic politics’, Dutt immediately shot back saying, “Highly inappropriate, unacceptable and inflammatory for an official party handle to be tweeting this. India speaks in one strong voice against terrorism. Our domestic politics and debate are our business and no one else’s . Please focus on your own matters. Thank you.”
PTI responded, “When your domestic politicking is taking the region to a brink of war, and Pakistan being dragged in, it becomes our business. We will reiterate the PM’s stance and say #LetBetterSensePrevail. We have been victims of terrorism. The solution is with dialogue. #SayNoToWar.”

In earlier tweets as well, the PTI has alleged ulterior political motives behind India’s action in Balakot. The party had said that in a desperate bid to win an election, one man “is gripping an entire nation in war hysteria”. “War is in no one’s interest except Narendra Modi,” it posted.
But a desperate bid to win an election by one man is gripping an entire nation in war hysteria. India needs to realise that war is in no one’s interest except Narendra Modi; whose escalating ego is reminiscent of dictators who started world wars.#SayNoToWar https://t.co/uNZZ40hXD0

B.S Yeddyurappa faced harsh criticism from political opponents for his comments. Condemning BJP’s “electoral moves”, Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Siddaramaiah wrote, “Shocking & disgusting to understand #BJPsPlot4Vote. It is unfortunate that @BJP4India is calculating electoral gains even before the dust has settled. No patriot shall derive such sadistic gains over soldiers’ death, only an anti-nationalist can. What will RSS say about this?”

Under apparent pressure from his party, B.S Yeddyurappa protested against PTI’s interpretation of his statement. “My statement is being reported out of context. I said that ‘situation favourable for BJP’ which i am saying for the last couple of months. This is nothe t first time that i said BJP in Karnataka will win minimum 22 seats under the able leadership of Modi ji,” he claimed.
