Why No Freedom For Former Jammu And Kashmir CMs?: P Chidambaram Questions Continued Detention Of Leaders

"Why are political leaders who fought secessionists and militants locked up?"

Congress leader P Chidambaram, on the morning of India’s Independence Day, questioned the continued detention of political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Twitter, the senior Congress leader wrote, “Why is freedom being denied to three former CMs of Jammu and Kashmir since August 6? Why are two former CMs under virtual solitary confinement and one former CM under house arrest? Why are political leaders who fought secessionists and militants locked up?”

For over ten days now, Jammu and Kashmir has been cut off from the rest of the world. Amidst a communications blackout and curfew, several political leaders have been arrested or taken into preventive custody, some even before the Centre’s bid to amend Article 370.
