If You’re Dragging Soldiers Into Politics, You’re Completely Insulting Them: Daughter of Pulwama Martyr Slams Politicisation of Army
Just because Modi is Prime Minister, doesn't mean it's his sena," she said on Barkha Dutt's show.
With the Lok Sabha polls right at the doorsteps, it is inevitable that the ruling party has begun invoking the Army more and more. But while politicians are busy pretending that Narendra Modi and the Indian Army are synonymous, it is essential to hear what the families of martyrs feel about such comparisons.
During a recent episode of journalist Barkha Dutt’s show This is Us, she said that while speaking to the family of one of the martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack, she was told, “Hamari sena kisi ki sena nahi hai,” — Our Army does not belong to anyone in particular. As per Dutt, the young son of a slain CRPF officer also said, “My father did not wear his uniform for Hindus or Muslims. Uniform nahi pehchaanti Hindu Muslim Sikh Isai.”
At @bdutt 's show #ThisIsUs on @NewsHtn , Apoorva, daughter of Pulwama martyr, has a strong message for politicians: "My father did not die for Modi or Rahul. He died for India. Can't you contest an election without dragging soldiers in?" pic.twitter.com/YdzhQZdnRd

Mamata Rawat and Apoorva Rawat, the widow and daughter of Kaushal Kumar Rawat, another slain CRPF jawan, too spoke to Dutt on the show. Apoorva speaking to Dutt asked why politicians continue to drag the army into everything. She added that if the slain jawans were watching the ongoing political feud over the military from above, they would probably say they did not sacrifice their lives for this.
“If you are dragging any soldier into politics, you are completely insulting them,” she said adding that the Army stands for everyone: “If someone dies from Modi’s family in a terror attack, they will fight for them, and if someone dies from Rahul Gandhi’s family they will fight for them as well.”
Hitting the nail on comments from VK Singh and Yogi Adityanath, Apoorva said that just because Modi is the prime minister, that does not mean it’s his “sena”. She further said that politicians only seemed to want to visit and speak to the family for a limited time, after which they were nowhere to be seen or found.
Last Sunday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, at a Ghaziabad rally said, “Congress people used to serve terrorists biryani, but Modiji’s Sena (Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Army) gives them only bullets and bombs. That’s the difference. Congress people use ‘ji’ for terrorists like Masood Azhar, but under the leadership of PM Modi, the BJP government is breaking the backs of terrorists by striking their camps.” The Election Commission reprimanded Yogi Adityanath for this.
