A Presidential Order removed provisions under Article 35A, which gives Jammu and Kashmir special treatment.

Shah’s announcement on Jammu and Kashmir was met with ruckus and uproar from the Opposition. Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said: Entire valley is under curfew, political leaders including three former chief ministers are under house arrest.
