Karnataka Becomes India’s Largest Producer Of Renewable Energy, Leaves Behind Several European Countries
At present, Karnataka is also host to India's first extensive solar-wind hybrid plant.
Today, Karnataka produces more renewable energy than several European states like Denmark and Netherlands, reported News18.
Karnataka has an installed capacity of 12.3 GW (GigaWatts), whereas Denmark and Netherlands are producers of 7.3 GW of renewable energy.
Earlier, Karnataka was facing a huge power crisis which led to a shift from coal-based energy to renewable energy.
In the last 12 months, Karnataka government introduced several policies that promoted the use of renewable energy. With this quick shift, Karnataka overthrew Tamil Nadu to become the largest producer of renewable energy in India.
The state government has also withdrawn tariffs for private companies that sell renewable power directly to consumers.
The state is also developing world’s second largest 2 GW Pavagada industrial solar park.
