Jammu and Kashmir: 7 Civilians Killed by Army in Pulwama
Eyewitnesses claimed that government forces fired indiscriminately at the civilians who were protesting the killings of three local militants.
In an encounter between militants and security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, three militants, a soldier and seven civilians were killed. According to a PTI report, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Sirnoo village in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Saturday morning after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area, an Army official said.
The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the security personnel.
Massive clashes broke out between youths and the security forces in the area following the encounter.
According to a Kashmir Reader report, however, eyewitnesses claimed that government forces fired indiscriminately at the civilians who were protesting the killings of three local militants.
The slain civilians have been identified as Suhail Ahmad of Bellow, Shahnawaz of Monghama, Liyaqat of Parigam, Abid Ahmad of Kareemabad, Amir Ahmad of Ashmandar, Aqib Ahmad of Prichoo Pulwama and Touseef Ahmad Mir of Urchersoo Pulwama.
