2 Days Before Christmas, Violent Mob Attacks Sunday Mass, 12 Injured
The police said that there is a possibility that the attackers were right-wing men.
A mob of about 10-15 men reportedly attacked a congregational prayer at Kowad in Chandgad taluka of Kolhapur on Sunday, December 23.
The mob, armed with hockey sticks, bottles, stones and choppers, attacked the group of people holding Sunday mass in a rented room, reported TOI. 12 people were injured by the attackers who had covered their faces to avoid identification.
“We are looking at all the angles and the investigation is under way accordingly,” Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Abhinav Deshmukh told TOI. He also said that there is a possibility that the attackers were right-wing ‘activists’.
“The modus operandi is being studied and the CCTV cameras are being checked. We have formed four teams, which are on the the trail of the attackers. So far, there has been no arrest,” said Additional SP of Gadhinglaj, reported TOI.
The police have registered a case against the attack but no arrests have been made.
