Left Front’s Kolkata Rally: Lakhs Gather at Brigade Parade Ground; Leaders Give a Call to Oust Modi at Centre

A sea of red was witnesses at the Left Front rally at iconic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Sunday, February 3. Lakhs of people gathered as political leaders slammed Modi govt at the Centre and called for its ouster.
Calling Modi a “chowkidar”, Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said, “We have to defeat the Chowkidar Modi in the next elections. We don’t need such a chowkidar, in whose presence loot is going on in the country. They have spread the poison of communalism across the country.”
“The Centre, which has looted the country for past five years, is now doling out sops ahead of elections. We are not calling for his (Modi’s) defeat just because we don’t like him; we are calling for a change so that there can be alternative policies. We have to fight for an alternative secular and democratic government at the Centre,” he added.
The CPI (M) secretary general called Modi and Mamata “two sides of the same coin” and added that “it is important to defeat the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state to defeat BJP at the Centre.” Similarly, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Surjya Kanta Mishra said, “Our call is loud and clear, Oust BJP save India, oust TMC Save Bengal. The people have also realised the significance of our call through their day to day experience.”
“We want work for all and food for all. We want Rs 18000 minimum wage and Rs 6000 pension,” Mishra told the crowd.
Raiganj Lok Sabha MP Mohammed Salim highlighted the atrocities against the farmers and underlined that their rights have to be protected. “The farmers do not want alms. They want their rights to be protected. The red flag has always been their true comrade in their battle, and it will be so in the future,” Mohammed Salim said. “To save Bengal we will have to defeat the hoodlums of TMC,” he added.
Blaming the BJP for dividing the country, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) leader pointed out that that the saffron party is trying to divide the country and particularly #Bengal with NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill.
