M.P. Doctor Quits After FIR Not Filed Against BJP Workers Who Threaten To Rape Her
Doctor’s resignation a slap on face of Shivraj Singh Chouhan govt, says Congress.
A doctor related to former Congress Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Shyama Charan Shukla, and posted at Jabalpur resigned on Monday alleging that some BJP workers threatened to rape her three months ago but no FIR was being filed against them.
In a letter addressed to the Director, Public Health and Family Welfare, she said, “I have been repeatedly abused by volunteers of local BJP leaders at the workplace and at Omti Police Station by 10 local gundas.”
On February 5, the doctor at Victoria Hospital in Jabalpur had a quarrel with relatives of a child who had come for treatment because she asked them to go to a specialist after the preliminary medical examination at the hospital.
She said abusive words were used by the BJP workers at the hospital. She alleged that they have been repeatedly harassing her following the incident. “After hearing and tolerating all this nonsense, I cannot see any ray of hope. I belong to a very reputed Congress party. All my family members are deeply hurt. I belong to the family of ex-chief minister of MP. Till date, no FIR has been lodged. So kindly accept my resignation letter. I have all proof and evidence about the incident,” she said in the letter.”
Jabalpur superintendent of police Kumar Saurabh said a probe has been initiated after both sides have accused each other of misbehaviour, a report in The Indian Express said.
Congress leader Ajay Singh said that the resignation is a “tight slap on the face of the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government” that claims to be working towards aiding women.
“These goons have no fear of law. On one hand, the Chief Minister gets police to parade criminals in public, on the other hand, he puts pressure on police to protect the goons connected to his party,” The Quint quoted Ajay Singh as saying.
However, the doctor was unavailable for comments, The Indian Express report said.
