Madhya Pradesh: Farmers’ Outfit Chief To Embark On M.P Yatra To Highlight Woes

The yatra will start from August 1 to highlight the plight of farmers, Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh president Shivkumar Sharma said.

Indore, Jun 9

A senior functionary of an organisation that has spearheaded the ongoing 10-day farm stir in Madhya Pradesh announced today that he would proceed on a three-month-long statewide yatra from August 1.

“I am going to take out a yatra from August 1 to highlight the plight of farmers,” Rashtriya Kisan Mazdoor Mahasangh president Shivkumar Sharma told reporters here.

He said that the yatra would start from Amarkantak the place from where river Narmada originates, and would comprise 50 tractors carrying material that would depict the troubles faced by farmers in the last 15 years in Madhya Pradesh.

The BJP has been in power in MP since 2003.

“During this yatra, I am going to be accused of playing into the hands of Congress. I am ready to face this allegation boldly. Everybody knows that I have nothing to do with politics,” Sharma, a former RSS ideologue, said.

He added that the ongoing 10-day farmers’ stir, seeking loan waiver and remunerative prices for farm produce, had mounted pressure on the Madhya Pradesh government.

He claimed that the agitation, which has been peaceful so far as it entered its ninth day today, had sent a shiver down the government’s spine.
