Former TOI & DNA Editor Gautam Adhikari Quits US Think-tank Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations
Adhikari resigned from his post as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress (CAP) in Washington DC.
After three women accused former Times Of India and DNA editor Gautam Adhikari of sexual harassment, he has resigned from his post as a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress (CAP) in Washington DC.
According to The Wire report, the web page which earlier showed Adhikari’s profile on the nonprofit organisation’s website now reads ‘Page Not Found’. Furthermore, his name is now removed from the centre’s list of experts, even though it appeared until as late as October 1, 2018.
Seeking his response, The Wire emailed Adhikari, he said, “I do not recall any of these incidents which are being alleged from so many years ago. As I said, I would sincerely apologise to anyone if I had made that person uncomfortable in my presence but there was no question of sexual harassment on my part.”
“I left my honorary non-resident position from the Center for American Progress because my reputation has been severely damaged and I didn’t want to involve the organisation in any embarrassment. I am otherwise retired and not attached to any institution,” he added.
On October 5, authors Sandhya Menon and Sonora Jha shared the horrific incidents of sexual harassment they were subjected to by the former executive editor at Times of India and former editor-in-chief of DNA. Later on October 8, another woman Tara Kaushal, came forward alleging harassment at the hands of Adhikari.W
“When I arrived for my interview/meeting, I waited outside his cabin, by the table of his administrative assistant. He came outside to fetch me; after hellos and handshakes, I followed him in. As he closed the door behind me, he pushed me against the door and kissed me. On the lips. Tongue et al,” Kaushal narrated the incident on her website.
On Monday, journalist Prashant Jha also stepped down as the chief of bureau and political editor of Hindustan Times after a former employee of the national daily accused him of sexual harassment.
