Mera naam musalmano’n jaisa hai. Mujhko qatl karo.

On the occassion of Rahi Masoom Raza's death anniversary, Rana Safvi translates one of his poems.

Mera naam musalmano’n jaisa hai

Mujhko qatl karo

Aur mere ghar mein aag laga do

Mere uss kamre ki Ismat ko looto

Jis mein meri bayazein jaag rahi hain

Aur main jis mein Tulsi ki Ramayana se sargoshi karke

Kalidas ke Meghdoot se yeh kahta hun

Mera bhi ek Sandesh hai

Mera naam musalmano’n jaisa hai

Mujhko qatl karo

Aur mere ghar mein aag laga do

Lekin meri rag rag mein Ganga ka paani daud raha hai

Mere lahu se chullu bhar Mahadev ke munh par pheko

Aur uss Yogi se kah do

  • Mahadev

Ab is Ganga ko wapas le lo

Yeh malecha Turko’n ke badan mein gaadha garm

Lahu ban ban kar daud rahi hai

Translation:

My name sounds like that of a Muslim

Kill me

And burn my house

Loot the sanctity of that room

Where my poetry books are awake

In which I whisper to Tulsi’s  Ramayana

To tell Kalidas ‘s Meghdoot

That I too have a message

My name sounds like that of a Muslim

Kill me

And burn my house

But the water of the Ganges runs through my veins

Take a small handful of my blood and throw it on Mahadev’s face

And tell that Yogi

  • Mahadev

take this Ganges back now

It runs like thick warm blood

In the bodies of those barbarian Turks
