Exclusive: ‘Is There No Natural Justice?’: Suspended for Searching Modi’s Chopper, IAS Md Mohsin Prepares For Legal Battle
“If you hang someone, you give them a chance to speak, right?”
IAS Officer Mohammad Mohsin, who was suspended as by the Election Commission for searching PM Modi’s helicopter in Odisha, says he is disappointed at how EC has acted. In an exclusive conversation with NewsCentral24x7, he said that he will continue to pursue the matter legally.
NewsCentral24x7: What happened in Sambalpur, Odisha on April 17?
Mohammad Mohsin: On that Monday, I had visited the helipad and had instructed poll officers about the work that has to be done. And then I left. The Prime Minister arrived there after I had left. I had gone to the Collectorate for some other work.
NewsCentral24x7: If you were not even near the helipad, on what basis were you suspended?
Mohammad Mohsin: This is the entire issue — that I wasn’t present at the scene. I was sitting at the Collectorate at the time. I have appealed to the EC and the district administration to share with me the report on the basis of which I have been suspended. But here I am, talking to you. I am very disappointed as I have no documents. What order has been issued to the state government, which report has been prepared by the EC, these were never shared with me. How will I fight a legal battle in the dark? I have been given no options for communication. I’ve written to the Collectorate on WhatsApp, Facebook and Email, asking them to share the report but there has been no response.
NewsCentral24x7: If this is how you’re being treated, how do you plan on fighting this?
Mohammad Mohsin: I will fight a legal batter. I will approach the Central Appellate Tribunal (CAT) again asking them to look into the matter. If you hang someone, you give them a chance to speak, right? Is there any natural justice in this country or not?
NewsCentral24x7: Will the IAS Association be issuing any statement in the matter?
Mohammad Mohsin: I do not know about this. The people at the association have spoken to me. They are also following the case. But no statement has been issued yet. I have presented my case among my people. I am hoping there should be some development.
Mohsin is 1996 batch Karnataka cadre officer. He was appointed the General Observer in Odisha for the upcoming polls. On April 17, he was suspended by the EC which said that he had failed to follow the guidelines related to SPG protectees, in this case, PM Modi.
His suspension was stayed by CAT, Bangalore. However, EC continues to bar him from poll duty.
