Muzaffarpur Shelter Abuse: Main Accused Brajesh Thakur In Jail Hospital Ward, Not Barracks

Brajesh Thakur is an influential man who has been associated with several Bihar politicians.

According to reports, the main accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter abuse case is spending his jail time in the hospital ward of the Muzaffarpur district jail not in the regular barracks.

Before Thakur was moved to Muzaffarpur jail on June 27, he had spent about three weeks in Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) after his arrest on June 2.

For the last 40 days, he has been languishing in the hospital ward of the Muzaffarpur jail. The jail superintendent toldEconomic Times, “If doctors say keep him in jail hospital, what can we do?” A team of doctors from SKMCH has informed the superintendent that Brajesh Thakur is suffering from several ailments, based on which, he has been lodged in the hospital ward.

According to a senior lawyer in Patna, Thakur’s stay in the hospital ward and ‘medical grounds’ will possibly be used by his lawyers to plead for bail before the Patna High Court. Earlier, a POCSO court had rejected his bail application.

Thakur’s influence and his political contacts have been reported widely in the media. According to one report, he was a member of the Bihar Vidhan Sabha’s press advisory committee as well as a state level accreditation committee, and was seen regularly in chambers of influential lawmakers like the deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi and the Rural Development minister Shravan Kumar.

Tejashwi Yadav, leader of opposition in Bihar, had previously alleged that the Bihar government was silent on the issue because the Patron of the NGO that ran the shelter was close to CM Nitish Kumar and had campaigned with him
