Modi’s Shocking Remark: Instead Of Worrying About Abhinandan, Opposition Parties Should Have Felt Proud of Indian Air Force
In an interview with Arnab Goswami, Modi accused the Opposition of a conspiracy to take out candlelight vigil demanding his return.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has derided the Opposition’s concerns about the safety of wing commander Abhinandan Varthaman when he was captured by Pakistan in February.
In an interview with Arnab Goswami for Republic TV, Modi said, “When the Abhinandan incident occurred. All the opposition parties should have proclaimed loudly that we are proud of the Indian Force because it shot down an F-16. Instead, they focused on ‘When will Abhinandan come back? When will he come back?’ within 2 hours.”
Modi tried to deflect attention from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s poor handling of the national security issue. He rather emphasised on the Opposition’s alleged conspiracy of plans to take out a candlelight vigil, to demand Abhinandan’s safe return.
He said, “It is okay, he got captured. Whatever the government does on a diplomatic level, we will do it. But, these people (Opposition) that night itself planned a candlelight vigil on Abhinandan’s topic with Pulwama and airstrike.”
In a gymnastic of wordplay and diversionary tactics, Modi and Goswami attempted to blame the Opposition for showing concern for Abhinandan. “They planned it all! They were going to embark on a candlelight vigil for Abhinandan,” Modi said.
