Nitish Raj: Crime Up By 20%, Rape Incidents Up by 23% In 11 Months Of JDU-BJP Govt
The Bihar police registered a total of 2.31 lakh criminal cases during this period.
Since the formation of the Janta Dal-United and Bharatiya Janata Party coalition government in Bihar in 2017, the crime rate in the state has increased by over 20 per cent, reported Economic Times Hindi.
Similarly, there has been a 23 per cent increase in incidents of rapes between August 2017 to June 2018. Cases of murders have gone up by 11 per cent.
The Bihar police registered a total of 2.31 lakh criminal cases during this time period. Of these, 1,278 cases were related to rape and 2,722 murder cases.
Under the previous government, 1.91 lakh criminal cases were registered between August 2016 and June 2017. 2,468 of these cases were murders and 1,044 were rape cases.
The Nitish-BJP government has been under severe scrutiny in light of the Muzaffarpur shelter home abuse case, where over 30 girls were drugged and raped. Earlier this week, the NHRC had sent a notice to the government over a when a video of a woman being paraded naked and being assaulted by a mob in Bihar.
