Protests To Draw Govt’s Attention Towards Degrading Narmada And Distressed Farmers Begin
Farmers, fishermen, adivasis from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra are a part of the protests.
Many individuals evicted from their lands due to the Sardar Sarovar Dam began a six-day-long protest from Khalghat to Bhopal on Tuesday. The protesters led by social activist Medha Patkar have called for a Jan Adalat in the Madhya Pradesh capital on June 4 to draw the attention of the government towards conservation of Narmada and farmers’ issues.
Farmers, fishermen, adivasis from Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra were among the protesters. They are agitating over the lack of facilities provided to them at the rehabilitation sites and want the government to provide them better MSP for their produce and waive loans.
“How are they rehabilitating us? There is no road and no drains are built too. Farming has become a non-profitable occupation for us,” one protestor told Go News.
