Rafale CAG Report Neither Complete Nor Fully Correct in The Eyes of Public: Mayawati

“Why constitutional bodies are under stress not been able to work with full honesty in the BJP government,” she asked.

Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday, February 13 questioned the report on the Rafale deal submitted by the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG) and tabled in the Rajya Sabha. The report says that the new deal to buy 36 jets was 2.86 per cent cheaper than what was being negotiated by the previous UPA government.

Mayawati took to Twitter and wrote, “The much awaited CAG report on Rafale tabled in Rajya Sabha is neither complete nor fully correct in the eyes of public.”

Hitting out at the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, she also raised concerns about constitutional institutions in the country being unable to work with “full honesty”. “Why constitutional bodies are under stress not been able to work with full honesty in the BJP government. Country is worried,” she asked.

Earlier, Opposition parties including the Communist Party of India (Marxist) as well as the Congress had highlighted that the current CAG, Rajiv Mehrishi, suffered a conflict of interest as he was the Finance Secretary (October 2014 to August 2015) when the Rafale dal was being negotiated by the Modi government.

The CPI(M) had said questioned the credibility of the report saying, “Rajiv Mehrishi, finance secretary at the time of #RafaleDeal negotiations now submitting #RafaleCAGReport giving him and his then bosses clean chit! What a sham! Another institution falls under Modi.”
