Rafale Scam: Don’t Name Anil Ambani – Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan Tells Rahul Gandhi
"Why did you take contract from HAL, and give Mr Anil Ambani Rs 30,000 crore?" he asked the government.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi initiated discussion on Rafale deal scam in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, January 2 and taking note of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the house, said that the PM did not have the courage to face questions on the issue, reported PTI.
Gandhi referred to Anil Ambani as a ‘failed businessman’ and accused the Modi government of providing ‘patronage’ to Ambani’s Reliance Defence Ltd. in bagging the offset contracts in the deal. “Why did you take contract from HAL, and give Mr Anil Ambani Rs 30,000 crore?” he asked.
However, speaker Sumitra Mahajan asked Gandhi to not name Anil Ambani in the house.
Gandhi referred to Ambani as ‘double A’ for the rest of the debate and reiterated the demand for a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). “We demand a JPC. We know that PM Modi gave Rs 30,000 to AA (Anil Ambani). The country wants to know the truth,” he said.
