Rajasthan: Child Sex Offenders On A Free Run As Only One POCSO Court For Entire State
In the past five years, there have been 16,393 cases reported under the Act and only 2,475 have been convicted, a report said.
As there is only one POCSO court in Rajasthan, the perpetrators of sexual violence against children are getting a few run in the state, Dainik Bhaskar reported.
Since the past six years, only one POCSO court is working out of Jaipur. Whereas, the Department of Legal Affairs had proposed to the government that there should be a POCSO court in each district of the state for speedy redressal, said the report.
In a recent judgement, the Supreme Court said that the accused in cases of sexual violence against children below 12 years of age will be given a death sentence. It added that all the cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) have to be resolved within a year.
At least 5,429 POCSO cases are pending in Rajasthan and only 15 per cent of the accused are convicted, said the report.
