Rajnath Singh Left Red-faced as Farmers in Poll Rally Say PM-KISAN Instalment Not Received (Watch)
People in the crowd can be heard saying “He (Singh) got trapped, He got trapped by his own words.”
Home minister Rajnath Singh was caught in a trap of his own making when he brought up farmer’s issues at a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rally in Purnia, Bihar on Wednesday.
In the interim budget, the Modi government had announced the PM Kissan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme under which farmers owning less than 2 hectares of land were to be given Rs 6,000 a year. The first instalment of Rs 2,000, as per the govt’s plans, would be distributed before the elections.
But the BJP’s tall claims and ground reality collided in a spectacular show at the rally, when farmers in the audience shouted out they had not received anything under the scheme.
The home minister says to the crowd, “Mere kisan bhaiyo (farmer brothers) tell me, have you received the first instalment of Rs. 2,000? Have some of you received it?”
When farmers say no one has received the money, Singh, dumbfounded, responds, “No no, how is this possible? Have any of you received it? ”
He then says, “Please everyone lower your hands…Only those who have received it raise your hands. Has anyone received it?”
When again no one raised their hand, turning to the BJP leaders present on stage, The Union Minister asks, “Why have they not received it?”
The camera then turns to the captures the reaction of those sitting in the audience. They say, “He got trapped. He got trapped by his own words.”
A video of the incident was shared on social media.
