Is Modi Govt More Loyal To ‘Con-Man’ Than To ‘Common-Man’?: Congress
The party demanded that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley be sacked due to his family’s financial links with fraudster Mehul Choksi.
The Congress party on Monday demanded sacking of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for “allowing” bank frauds worth Rs 90,000 crores and letting 23 fraudsters including Vijay Mallya, Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi escape.
Taking a dig at at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said, “Modi Govt is not a guardian of ‘public money’ but a ‘travel agency’ facilitating ‘fraud, fleece and fly to foreign shores’ of willful bank defaulters.”
Pilot also took a swing at Jaitley’s daughter Sonali Jaitley and son-in-law, Jaiyesh Bakhshi and questioned why they were paid Rs.24 lakh by Mehul Choksi’s Gitanjali Gems Ltd.
“Is this not a clear-cut case of ‘Collusion’, ‘Connivance’ & ‘Conflict of Interest’ on part of FM, Shri Arun Jaitley? Why were FM Jaitley, his daughter and son-in-law neither summoned nor questioned by CBI/ED/SFIO?” he asked.
He said, “Modi and Jaitley cannot remain silent anymore, they cannot point fingers at the opposition for his own misdeeds. Corruption is writ large over this government whether it is the Rafale deal, thousands of crore becoming NPAs or the escape of Mallya, Lalit Modi, Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi — the list is endless.”
These are the people (Modi and Jaitley) who were officially helping the fraudsters, legally safeguarding them and politically protecting them to escape and run away,” said Pilot.
During the press conference, Pilot claimed that Mehul Choksi and Nirav Modi, through their companies Gitanjali Gems Ltd. and others, committed a fraud of Rs 26,306 crore.
