Siddaramaiah Sends Legal Notice To Narendra Modi, BJP. INR 100 Cr Sought In Damages. (Read Notice)

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has sent a legal notice to Prime Minister Narendra Modi five days ahead of the May 12 Assembly elections in the state for making defamatory statements against him. The notice is also marked to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), BJP president Amit Shah and chief ministerial candidate Yeddyurappa. 

Here are the main highlights of the notice:

1) The notice underlined that Modi has committed libel and offences punishable under Section 499, 500, 501 and 502 of the Indian Penal Code. 

2)The notice calls upon Modi to cease and desist from making defamatory statements and asks him to tender an unconditional apology through electronic, print and social media. 

3) If Modi fails to do so, the notice said the prime minister has to make payment of exemplary damages of Rs 100,00,00,000 (Rs 1,00 crore) and cost of the notice Rs 1,00,000 (Rs 1 lakh). 

4) The notice states that the “baseless allegations” with no “factual” or “inferential basis” has caused Siddaramaiah, and his family members “harm” and “anguish”.
