Union Minister Smriti Irani was left red-faced on Wednesday, May 8 at an election rally in Ashok Nagar, Madhya Pradesh when the audience members told her that the Congress government in the state has waived off loans of farmers.
While delivering her speech, Irani asked, “During the campaign for the assembly elections, the Congress promised to waive off farm loans. Did they do it? Were your loans waived off?” A large section of the people replied in the positive.”Ho gaya, ho gaya” (yes, it’s done, it’s done), they said, suggesting that the Congress party has met its poll promises after coming to power in the state.
Irani paused her speech for a few seconds, and then completely changed the topic.
The video clip of the incident was shared by the grand old party on Twitter. She was campaigning for BJP’s Guna candidate KP Yadav who has been fielded against Congress’ Jyotiraditya Scindia.

On May 7, senior Congress leader Suresh Pachouri reportedly dumped documents at former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s place to show that the loans of 21 lakh farmers have been waived off by the party in the state since Kamal Nath became the chief minister.
The Pachouri-led delegation took the step after Chouhan blamed the Congress for not meeting its poll promises.
