Surgical Strikes Have Been Carried Out in the Past: 2016 Surgical Strike Hero Lt Gen (Retd) DS Hooda
Congress recently revealed details of 6 surgical strikes carried out across the border into Pakistan, under the UPA regime.
Lieutenant General (Retd.) DS Hooda, the retired chief of the Northern Command who supervised the 2016 surgical strike, said on May 4 that surgical strikes were not a new thing.
ANI reported the veteran saying that the military operations were carried out across the border in the past as well before the Bharatiya Janata Party came into power at the Centre. He said, “Call it surgical strikes, call it cross border operations, they have been carried out in the past by the Army…”

Earlier on May 2, the Congress party had revealed details of six surgical strikes carried out across the border into Pakistan, under the UPA government, between 2008 and 2014.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in an interview had also said, “Our armed forces were always given a free hand to operationally respond to every threat. Multiple surgical strikes took place during our tenure too.”
On Saturday, Congress president Rahul Gandhi too hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks that the surgical strikes under the UPA rule were akin to video games. Gandhi said Modi’s comments were not an insult to the Congress, but the India Army.
Several other veterans have spoken up about such cross border operations being carried out under the previous governments.
