Sushma Swaraj Personally Called And Told Me I Have Permission To Visit Pakistan: Sidhu

According to Sidhu, he sought permission from the Indian government before leaving for Pakistan.

After facing flak for attending Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s swearing-in-ceremony, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday said that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj herself informed him over the phone that the Indian government gave him permission, two days after the neighbouring country provided the visa.

According to Sidhu, he sought permission from the Indian government before leaving for Pakistan. “Received invitation 10 times, then sought permission from the Indian government. I didn’t get permission and was waiting. Two days after Pakistan government gave visa, Sushma Swaraj ji herself called me in the night, informed that I have been given permission,” Sidhu said in a press conference.

The Congress lawmaker highlighted that even former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and PM Narendra Modi had visited Pakistan. He also explained that it was wrong to point fingers at him because even Nawaz Sharif had attended Narendra Modi’s oath-taking ceremony after receiving the latter’s invitation.

“In the past also efforts for peace have been made, the late Vajpayee ji had taken ‘dosti bus’ to Lahore, invited Musharraf. PM Modi invited Nawaz Sharif to oath-taking, he also went suddenly to Lahore,” Sidhu said.
