Tripura Governor confirms writing to CM for a job for BJP aide. – Terms NC24X7 “Christopher Columbus”

In a twitter exchange, the Tripura Governor confirmed our story but appeared to brazen it out.

In a twitter exchange, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy  first accused of “yellow journalism”

And then did a 180 degree turn and confirmed our story that he indeed wrote a letter to Tripura CM asking for a government job for a BJP member. stands by its story.

Original Story:

It takes time and effort to cultivate relationships. Even between a state’s governor and its chief minister.

On April 20, the governor of Tripura, Tathagata Roy, used all his acumen to defend the State’s Chief Minister Biplab Deb’s claim that Internet and satellite communication existed in “Mahabharata’s time”.

“In the Puranic period, people had thought of ‘Divya Drishti’, Pushpaka Ratha’ (divine sight, flying chariot, respectively), which means, they must have had a superhuman imagination or some kind of prototype,” the learned governor said.

Given Roy’s background as the technocrat who designed the Kolkata metro, one would find it impossible to conceive why a man of his stature would back a claim that flies in the face of rational thinking.

The answer may be simple. Because it takes time and effort to cultivate relationships. Even between the governor and Chief Minister of a State.

Only a little over a month ago, on March 14, the governor had, after all, used the authority of his office to send a letter to Chief Minister Biplab Deb to curry favour for a BJP man from Bengal.

In the letter, bearing the governor’s stamp, the governor addressed Deb as “My dear Chief Minister”. Roy was writing to the CM about Sarvadaman Ray, a colleague of his, from the 1990s, when he was a Bengal BJP functionary. Ray is a qualified Chartered Accountant with private sector experience, the governor writes. He could serve the Tripura government in interacting with entrepreneurs or in examination of accounts, the governor writes.

The governor, the letter suggests, had already spoken to the CM about Ray in person. This was just to put an official stamp to what many would perceive as an unethical and an I-will-scratch-your-back-if-you-scratch-mine move.

“My dear Chief minister,” the letter says. “This has reference to discussion I had with you at Durbar Hall during the swearing-in of the Pro-tem Speaker on 14-03-2018.

“Accordingly, I forward the bio-data of Shri Sarvadaman Ray whom I had known as a Party colleague from 1990 when I was active in politics in the West Bengal unit of the BJP. Shri Ray is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has served in important position in the private sector. He is Interested to serve your government for purposes of interacting with possible entrepreneurs as well as for examination of accounts. You may like to give the matter due consideration,” the governor writes.

The letter looks to have been received by the CM’s office a week later and forwarded to Tripura government’s directorate of industries and commerce two days later.

It’s unclear if Ray managed to find a role in the Tripura government courtesy of a weighty recommendation from the governor just as it is not known if the internet did indeed exist in Puranic times.
