Case Registered Against Unnao Rape Survivor, Family For ‘Forgery’
The FIR was filed on the basis of a complaint by the husband of a woman chargesheeted in the Unnao Rape Case.
Uttar Pradesh police has reportedly registered a case against the Unnao rape survivor, her mother and uncle for allegedly forging documents to prove that the survivor is a minor.
The FIR was lodged on Sunday, December 23 at Makhi police station after a local court’s directive, on the basis of a complaint filed by Haripal Singh, husband Shashi Singh who has been chargesheeted in the Unnao rape case and is currently in jail. Haripal Singh’s son was also booked in a separate case of kidnapping and gangrape of the Unnao survivor, reported the Indian Express.
Station House Officer (SHO) of Makhi police station Dinesh Mishra told IE, “In his complaint, Haripal Singh has alleged that the rape victim, her mother and uncle prepared a forged school transfer certificate of the victim using fake signatures and stamp of the principal and Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) of Rae Bareli district. The FIR was lodged on charges including cheating by personation, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, forgery for purpose of cheating and using as genuine a forged document.”
The alleged rape of the 16-year-old girl in Unnao raised many questions on Uttar Pradesh’s law and order situation. The survivor and her family attempted to immolate themselves in front of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s office on April 8 this year, after their letters to the chief minister to investigate the case went unanswered for almost a year. The case came to light after the immolation attempt. On April 9, however, the police arrested her father, who was allegedly killed in judicial custody.
After national outrage and opening of a CBI investigation, four-time Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was chargesheeted and arrested for allegedly raping the minor. Sengar is currently in jail.
