Chandauli: 15-Year-Old Muslim Boy Set On Fire For Refusing To Chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’
The boy has been admitted to a hospital and is reportedly in critical condition with 60% burns.
Incidents of mob violence, especially attacks on Muslims, are at an all-time high. And the modus operandi is almost always the same. In Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, a minor was reportedly set on fire for refusing to chant “Jai Shri Ram“.
On Sunday night, a 15-year-old Muslim boy was accosted by four men and subjected to violence. As per an IANS report, providing a statement on the hospital’s camera, the boy said, “I was walking on Dudhari bridge when four men kidnapped me. Two of them tied my hand, and the third one started pouring kerosene. After which they set me on fire and ran away.”
He later added that he was being forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.
He has been admitted in Kabir Chaura hospital in Varanasi and is in critical condition with 60 per cent burns.
A senior police official in Varanasi, however, told IANS that he was not aware of the incident.
