Vinit Goenka of BJP Claims to be Member of Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways; RTI Reply Says No Record
An RTI application was filed by Sunil N Solanki on June 26, inquired about the appointment details of Goenka.
Vinit Goenka is a common face in prime time debates on television. He represents the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in these shows. In his social media profile and personal website, Goenka claims to be a member of “IT Taskforce, Ministries of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways”. However, an RTI query revealed that Goenka is not a member of any department in the ministry.
The RTI application was filed by Sunil N Solanki on June 26. Solanki inquired about the appointment details of Goenka as a member-IT Taskforce, Ministries of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways. In its reply on August 1, the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHDCL) noted that “there is no record available in NHDCL regarding appointment of Shri Vinit Ramratan Goenka as member of aforesaid IT Taskforce.”
The claim made by Goenka, therefore, is totally false. He was never appointed by the ministry.
Here is a copy of the RTI reply:
NewsCentral24x7 wrote to Goenka. The story will be updated when we receive his reply.
Post the story, Goenka has updated his credentials, both on his website and his Twitter account, to “former member — IT Taskforce, Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways”. Although, one part on his website’s homepage still reads: “Shri Goenka was appointed a Member of the IT Task Force in the Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways and Shipping, Government of India. In these capacities, he works closely with Union Ministers — Shri Nitin Gadkari, Shri Suresh Prabhu and others — on the host of nationwide IT initiatives launched to achieve Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s mission, ‘Minimum Government Maximum Governance.’”
None of this, however, still manages to address the fact that NHDCL has no record of his appointment at all.
